HISTORY:

In 1993, five idealistic men formed a group of what is now called Pilipinas Sierra Mountaineering and Outdoor Club, Inc. What made them band together is their common bond with nature. They were soon followed by men and women who shared the same ideals. They all had something in common, a sense of adventure and simple love for mother earth.

Pilipinas Sierra Mission Statement:

To promote the outdoors and trail hiking tradition in the Philippines and bring as many people as possible in direct contact with mother nature so that by themselves, they will form through this experience, the commitment of preserving and protecting the environment.

To promote the protection of the environment among members and the public in general and to advocate the preservation of irreplaceable wildlife, wilderness areas, scenic trails and old growth forest, wetlands and marine ecosystem and to explore and enjoy the wild places of the earth.

Our Annual Activities

We strongly believe that once we experience being close to nature, we will have a better grasp of the state of the environment and thus take an active part in its preservation, even in our small way.

It is in this light that we conduct our annual Friendship Climbs. The activity is very popular, particularly among non-mountaineers, as it provides the opportunity to go trail hiking, without much difficulty. It is also a venue to be friends with other outdoor enthusiasts.

Another activity is the Summer Camp, which is open to the youth from age 5 - 15. Activities are designed for kids, which focus on learning while having fun. The itinerary include short hikes, group games, lecture-play on basic skills like simple cooking, tent pitching, etc.

Lastly, we conduct the annual training program as a prelude to membership. It is intended for those who wish to be part of the group on a long-term basis. Training focuses on outdoor skills and actual climbs.
